I documented how radio-based communication became a crucial\, but ambig uous infrastructure of war at FARC units. The sudden introduction of local ization technologies by the Colombian army in 2000 presented a lethal thre at to the guerrilla group. The data I collected during interviews in Colom bia reports a severe learning process to diminish this new risk\, relying on a combination of informed beliefs and significant technical understandi ng. It directly interco nnects end user devices and allows communication between them. It synchron izes and forwards messages and allows communicating via voice chat\, text messages and file sharing.\n\nIn 2013\, qaul.net antennas on the roof of 6 b interconnected the neighborhood with an informal settlement on the other side of the canal.\n\nqaul.net is undergoing a complete rewrite. A new ne twork agnostic routing protocol is being created to form Internet independ ent mobile mesh networks\, communicate locally and delay tolerant.\n\nThe talk will present and discuss the concepts of qaul.net\, with a new approa ch to enable mesh communication in heterogeneous mobile networks with a fo cus on mobile phones as crucial network nodes.\nSpeaker: Mathias Jud (qaul .net) LOCATION:6b conference room URL:https://www.battlemesh.org/BattleMeshV12/Events#Mobile-first-meshing END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:TSUT: The Still Unnamed Tool for mesh network planning DTSTART;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20190713T110000 DTEND;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20190713T120000 DTSTAMP;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20190713T114756Z UID:TSUT SEQUENCE:2019071311 DESCRIPTION:At the university of Trento\, we are developing a tool (still without a name) that tells you if there is line-of-sight between two build ings and an estimation of how much bandwidth you can achieve\, based on th e datasheets from real devices. A mesh network finds strength in its decentra lized nature because there is no single point of failure and we want our o rganization to embody that\, too.
