Code of Conduct

Please read our full Code of Conduct before registering, engaging in online discussions, or attending the event. These simple rules help everyone feel comfortable.

Why We Have a Code of Conduct

We want to create an event where everyone can learn, teach, share, network, and have fun. This only works if we include as many people as possible and foster an environment in which everyone feels safe and welcome. Discussion and disagreements are important—but they can get heated. That’s why we set these rules and boundaries.

A Safe Environment

We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming atmosphere for all, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, programming or networking technology, disability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion (or lack thereof), or any other characteristic. Help us make Battlemesh a great experience for everyone!

Our expectations of all participants: * Constructive Engagement. Treat everyone with respect. Assume good intentions. Ask before you advise; explain only when asked. * Welcoming & Patience. Be friendly and give others the benefit of the doubt. * Respectful Communication. You may disagree—but do not resort to insults or personal attacks. * Mindful Language. Be aware of how your words may impact others. Harassment, intimidation, or disparaging remarks are unacceptable. * Inclusive Language. Whenever possible, use inclusive language: For example, say "folks" or "friends" instead of "guys", and be mindful that some people prefer different pronouns than those you would assume. If you misspeak, don't feel bad - just apologize and do better next time. * Jokes with Caution. We do not tolerate any CoC violations, even if “it was just a joke”. * Admit Uncertainty. If you don’t know something, say so and encourage others to ask questions—we’re all here to learn.

Reporting Violations

If you witness someone violating the Code of Conduct — even if you are not directly affected — please:

# Politely point out the inappropriate behavior and ask them to stop. # Contact the Battlemesh Trust & Safety team (see “Help & Contact” below).

If a violation is confirmed, the organizers will hear both sides and may take action, such as: * Give a warning * Have a longer talk about our values * Removal from the event (requires consensus of at least two team members) * Involvement of law enforcement if necessary

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to: * Harassment, and other exclusionary behaviour. Deliberate intimidation and threats. * Aggressive or sexualized language and content. Unwanted sexual advances. * Insulting or putting down other participants. * Publishing or telling others, that a participant belongs to a particular identity channel without asking their consent first. * “Well-actuallies”: Telling people what they “actually meant to say”. * Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all in-person and online contexts of Battlemesh, including talks, workshops, chat channels, mailing lists, and social events.
