BattleMeshV5 Agenda

Logistics

The talks / panel discussions / workshops are accompanied by a series of "social events" which aim to provide the basis for healthy discussions and relaxing moments between the hard working hours. For logistical reasons, most of these events require a preregistration. Please contact us to announce your interest at least 3 days prior to the event to facilitate a smooth organization.

Our hosts want to take advantage of having you in Greece to introduce you to the typical Greek cuisine. If you have any special "issue", like being vegetarian, having allergies, etc., please let us know and we will do our best to offer a solution.

If you wish to take the matter in your own hands, nearby supermarkets/bars/restaurants will be able to accommodate your needs.

Making additions or changing the agenda

Direct editing is restricted to foster a coordinated approach to setting up an agenda in order to accommodate the wishes of the greater community. Please contact the battlemesh mailing list if you wish to make a proposal for changing the agenda.

batman-adv: distributed handling of non-mesh clients in a layer 2 mesh

This talk will explain how non-mesh clients can be bridged into the layer2 mesh and can take advantage of the mesh features (gateway selection/optimum path/seamless hand-over/etc) in an automatic fashion without the need of installing or configuring any software on the client itself.

BattleTable with Mitar

Representatives of different routing protocols are engaged in a reality show like fight moderated by Mitar about which concept is better, why, how, what are arguments, cases, how to create a test case, etc. This edition's topic lists includes:

Topics for Battletable

  • multi-interface nodes - Shall the whole mesh know about all interfaces and if so in what manner?
  • multi-link optimization strategies - What's the best way to squeeze out more performance?
  • Multipath load balancing?
  • Channel interference mitigation?
  • How is multicast/broadcast done in the mesh based on the routing protocol?
  • Zeroconf/Bonjour support?
  • Support for multiple gateways?
  • Support for different kinds (and prioritizations) of gateways.
  • Has routing protocols some way to peer with other networks? Routing protocol interoperability? Peer over multiple wireless links?
  • Support for data/packet prioritization (QoS)?
  • Does it work with encrypted WiFi?

  • Security, traffic injection/reflection.
  • IP conflict detection, mitigation?
  • Support for client roaming?
  • Node mobility.
  • Max size of the network?
  • Topology of the whole mesh at some moment is accessible?
  • Which data structures are used internally? Complexity?
  • Extensibility of protocols.
  • Routing loops.
  • How routing protocol survives the reboot? Does it need flash/persistent storage?
  • Link measurements - only packet loss, other metrics?
