BattleMeshV5
We would like to give to the 'Battle of the Mesh' the flavor of a tournament with a social character. If you are a mesh networking enthusiast, community networking activist, or have an interest in mesh networks you might find this bunch of crazy folks gathering for the Wireless Battle of the Mesh V5 very interesting. This event is also an opportunity to meet developers from the most popular open source mesh protocol implementations (Babel, B.A.T.M.A.N. L3 and L2, BMX, OLSR) and watch their ideas compete. If you have implemented an interesting mesh protocol capable of running on OpenWrt Kamikaze you can take part in the tournament too.

Where
The BattleMeshV5 will be held at Athens, Greece. Since the event will take place in the center of Athens we booked a hotel for the first ~60 participants that confirm their participation. The testing / hacking / talks will take place in the nearby National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). A large room that can accommodate 100 persons has been reserved for the BattleMesh participants. Expect to find an internet connection, plenty of space, video projector and a cafeteria and some curious students there.
The hotel is within walking distance from the university: Map (Point A is the hotel, Point B is the university)

How to get to the hotel / university from the Athens airport

Bus: Take the X95 Bus to Sintagma square, change to the subway and take the red line direction to Ag. Antonios to Omonia station and follow this map
Taxi: There are plenty of taxis at the airport. The journey to the center of Athens will cost you around 35 EUR during daytime (from 5am to midnight) or 50 EUR during nighttime (from midnight to 5am).
National Technical University of Athens
For the vent a room has been booked (room number T10 in the Tositsa building) which provides us with electricity and internet (both ethernet and wireless) and of course enough work benches. Inside this small campus there is also a cafeteria, that will supply us with the necessary amount of caffeine
It's location is really close to the hotel (foot distance). You can take a look at this map, specially prepared for the BattleMeshv5. In this area there are also many places to eat for those who might want to grab a snack during the day.
When
26 of March - 1st of April 2012
The space is reserved for the whole week (Monday to Sunday). Some people will start gathering during the previous weekend (check the WBMv5 Warmup). So if time is not a problem, we recommend you to travel some days ahead.
What
In brief: we will deploy a wireless mesh network over the neighborhood, run different routing protocols on top of it, perform some tests and see which routing protocol behaves better.
Side activities will be organized. Workshops and talks on wireless topics are on the time table:

Fee
The event itself is free of charge. If you wish to take part in the hotel reservation group you need to confirm your participation by wiring 84 EUR (plus international wiring costs - see below) into the specified account before the 28th of February. [update] Since there where some people who wanted to book for the event but could not make the registration or transfer in time, we managed to extend the registration period for a week, until 11/03/2012 00:00UTC. [/update] This amount guarantees you a sleeping place in the hotel during the entire time of the event (check-in: Monday afternoon, check-out: Sunday morning). As we are living in a finite universe the number of beds / rooms in this hotel are limited. We are allowed to additionally fill up the rooms with sleeping bags if we want to.
We have to operate under this strict timeline because the hotel asked us to make a down-payment for the reservation in early March. Therefore, we need to have the cash and the exact number of participants to secure the beds.
You are not required to book the hotel with us to participate in the event. In case you wish to find your own hotel feel free to do so.
