Wireless Leiden endorses the Battle of the Mesh v6

The "Wireless Battle of the Mesh" is an event that aims to bring together people from across the globe to test the performance of different routing protocols for ad-hoc networks, like Babel, B.A.T.M.A.N., BMX, OLSR, and 802.11s. Of course, new protocols (working on OpenWRT) are always welcome!

This year the event will take place from Monday 15th till Sunday 21st of April at the University of Aalborg, Denmark.

Established in 2002, the Wireless Leiden Foundation has created an open, inexpensive, fast wireless network for the City of Leiden and the surrounding region. This is a local network, that integrates seamlessly with the Internet, but can also be used for free, local communication. Also ambulant users and visitors or tourists can use the network, no registration is required. Wireless Leiden is a non-profit organization, operated entirely by professional volunteers, creating and maintaining the wireless infrastructure. All the software, technological and organisational knowledge is freely available to others under an 'open source' license. We feel that being a non-profit organization is essential for the success of the project and for minimizing the costs. We do not build isolated “hot spots”, we erect nodes that are the access points for the users in the area around the node. These nodes are interconnected forming a wireless backbone. This network structure enables easy network monitoring and maintenance. Moreover not every node needs a local internetconnection, a limited number of gateways is sufficient.

Wireless Leiden endorses and supports the Battle of the Mesh v6 because of the efforts made by its community to advance the field of wireless mesh networking and foster the development of grassroots community networks.

Wireless Leiden will support the event by helping to promote the even.

Many other communities endorse and support the Wireless Battle of The Mesh v6, an up to date list of the endorsers of the Battlemesh v6 can be found at the main Battlemesh website.
